Bubbles 1 is an audiovisual process video, illustrated and scored by me. It’s a series of 33, priced to be accessible to the wonderful community of artists who have shown me so much love, acceptance, and encouragement over the last 6 months.
I am exploring a new composition process that came to me in a meditation. It feels like “painting with sound” and reflects the way I “see” things: I often hear sounds when I look at something — an invaluable tool for someone who composes to visuals!
I composed the score viewing the piece as a series of tiny movements and also looking at the different events as different layers of sound, so elements like the black lines, light lines, opaque shading, transparent shading, etc, each have their own sound. And each of the thousands of visual changes has a corresponding note change, creating all the melodies and layers of different sounds.
Why bubbles?? I’ve always drawn circles, lines, and geometric shapes as a way to calm my mind. I started this illustration on the flight back from the east coast, my first time seeing family since before the lockdown in November 2019. It was a wonderful and overwhelming trip. I dug up lots of old stuff in my parents’ basement, including my high school sketchbooks, and found some of my old circle and line art, which I believe inspired this piece.
This piece is the first in a larger series of this style of composition work. I hope it brings you joy!
